ORIDFix - Oblivion Reference ID/FormID Fixer V1.1 - 16 April 2007

Changes in v1.1:
Changed the preset value to 100000 (000000 may cause savegame corruption when used with the SI_beta patch). You can still change this value manually.

What this does:
The reference ID counter is incremented each time a new object is created in the game. There are only a limited number of objects possible as determined by the counter, when the counter overflows newly created objects can be lost. Due to a bug in several scripts added by the Shivering Isle add-on the counter is much more susceptible to overflow. When this happens various odd behaviors result, among them is the loss of the ability to record newly created game objects in the savegame. One of the symptoms of this bug is that after reloading a savegame you will have lost an object that your player dropped before creating that savegame.

This program, ORIDFix, resets the reference ID counter (to 0) and resets the counter's flag (first byte of the counter) in the hope that the game can recover unused IDs making them available to record new objects in the savegame. This feature is not fully tested at this time but it is believed to be safe. This fix (ORDIFix) can be used on any Oblivion installation (any version) even if Shivering Isles is not installed.

If you have Shivering Isles installed a script patch (actually a MOD) should be applied to your game to slow down the incrementing of the reference ID counter. Use of the script modification (FormIDFix11) will greatly extend the playing time of your game. The MOD is installed and used just like any other MOD. It is highly recommend that the MOD be used as well as resetting the reference ID counter with ORIDFix. This MOD is only to be used for games with the Shivering Isles expansion installed and activated.

The MOD 'FormIDFix11' is available here.

Quickstart:
Unzip the file ORIDFix.exe into your savegame folder.
Double-click the ORIDFix.exe program file.
Click 'Open' to select a savegame file and read that file into memory.
Click 'Save' to change the name of the modified savegame file. By default it is the same name with 'ORID_' appended to the filename.
Click 'FixMe' to make the changes and write out the modified file.
Click 'Close' to close the program.

Run the Game. Load the modified savegame with the 'Load' button. By default the new filename will be the same as the original filename with 'ORID_' appended to the filename.
